Northwestern University in Qatar, a Qatar Foundation partner university, celebrated the graduation of its Class of 2023, marking 11 years since the school's first graduation in 2012.
Class of 2023 graduates now join Northwestern University's global network of more than 250,000 alumni, engaging in their media and communications careers as well as pursuing their post-graduate studies at some of the most prestigious graduate schools around the world.
This year's ceremony began with the dean and CEO of Northwestern Qatar Marwan M. Kraidy congratulating the graduating class on their achievements and highlighting the importance of imagination as catalyst for excellence in their lives post-graduation.
For his part, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Hassan Al Thawadi addressed the graduating class as this year's graduation speaker, drawing parallels between his work leading the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and their resilience as students on the way to graduation, underscoring the importance of finding passion and determination in achieving success.
He urged the graduates to make use of the storytelling skills they have learned during their time at NU-Q to bring to light and challenge misconceptions about the region, saying that now as the graduates are about to enter into their working life, they will be able to tell stories in different forms, stressing that now the graduates are well equipped to tell the stories of the people of the region and dismantle the stereotypes that exist about it and them, eliminating obstacles before diversity, change, and positive coexistence. Al Thawadi added that graduates have their own point of views which are special, unique, and deserve to be shared with the world, therefore, now it is up to graduates to transmit their legacies to the world.
In addressing her fellow graduates, student speaker Aesha Hussein encouraged them to use the skills they developed at Northwestern Qatar to create new opportunities and make a positive impact in the world.
