JEDDAH, 22nd August 2016 (WAM) — Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Madani, on Monday reaffirmed the organisation’s continued support for the people and government of Afghanistan.
He was speaking during a meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, and Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah, and Afghan Foreign Minister, Salahuddin Rabbani, in Kabul.
Madani and the Afghan leaders discussed important regional issues and the upcoming session of the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, according to a statement from the OIC.
They also reviewed ways and means to further improve bilateral relations and cooperation.
The Afghan leaders underscored the important role of the OIC and reconfirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to supporting any efforts that are in line with the implementation of the relevant OIC resolutions for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The OIC secretary-general also met the chairman of the Afghanistan Ulema Council and the chairman of the High Peace Council to discuss various issues of mutual interest.
