JEDDAH, 6th March, 2016 (WAM) – The 11th meeting of the OIC Steering Committee on Health, SCH, stressed the need to raise public awareness about OIC contribution towards improvement of the situation of health in OIC countries and to increase efforts to mobilise governments, international organisations, and other stakeholders to participate in the implementation of OIC’s Strategic Health Programme of Action, SHPA.

Meeting in Jeddah, the SCH also established a Working Group to discuss modalities for resource mobilisation for implementing the activities under SHPA. The meeting welcomed the establishment of the OIC Network on Population and Reproductive, Maternal, New-born and Child Health, RMNCH-Net, by UNFPA and encouraged the member states to fully utilise the network resources. A presentation prepared by the World Health Organisation on the Zika virus and the measures to be taken by OIC member states to strengthen their national health systems to meet any emergency, was also made.
