JEDDAH, 5th June, 2016 (WAM) — The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, has met with the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, Iyad Amin Madani, at her guest residence in Jeddah.

Following the meeting, Madani told the Saudi Press Agency, SPA, that the meeting provided a chance to present to the Bangladeshi Prime Minister the work being done by OIC, especially the Islamic Extraordinary Summit held in Jakarta, as well as the ordinary summit in Istanbul, resulting in the establishment of a new Food Security Panel.

He said the meeting also dealt with the forthcoming summit on science and technology and highlighted the OIC initiative to hold a reconciliatory meeting for the political foes in Iraq, and a meeting for Afghanistan scholars to be held in the Saudi cities of Makkah and Madinah.

Madani said that Sheikh Hasina conveyed the OIC interest in bringing an end to the refugee influx into Bangladesh coming from Myanmar.

Prime Minister Hasina also met with Vice President of the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank, Dr. Ahmed Tiktik.

Following the meeting, Dr. Tiktik told SPA that the bank has, since its inception, provided Bangladesh with loans worth US$20 billion, including more than US$1 billion worth of projects in the field of energy, education, rural development and urban development, currently under construction.
