ABU DHABI, 31th January, 2017 (WAM) — Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation headed the participating UAE delegation in the 28th AU Summit in Addis Ababa.

The opening ceremony was attended by heads of states and governments of 54 members in the African Union, the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Manuel de Oliveira Guterres, Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine, Salvador Valdez, Vice President of the Republic of Cuba, heads of regional and international organisations, representatives of civil society, media and others.

The event is held this year under the AU theme: “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in the Youth”. It also discusses a number of important issues.

The summit is expected to lead to the election of a new commission chairperson, Morocco’s return to the African Union and other issues.
