ADDIS ABABA, 31st January, 2017 (WAM) — Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Head of the UAE delegation at the 28th African Summit, met Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, on the sidelines of the summit, being held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed the bilateral relations between the UAE and Ethiopia, focussing on agreements and a number of relevant topics, including the licensing of Etihad Airways to operate between Abu Dhabi and Addis Ababa.

They also discussed Ethiopia’s participation in Dubai 2020 Expo and the benefits it could reap by taking part in such a global event.

The Ethiopian minister stressed how his country gives special importance to its relations with the UAE, while referring to the strategic ties between two countries. He also emphasised the Ethiopian government’s keenness to enhance bilateral co-operation in economic and investment fields, and speed up work on all outstanding issues.

Among others present were Yacoub Al Hosani, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Organisations Affairs, and Ghazi Abdullah bin Ashour Mehri, the UAE Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative of the State to the African Union.
