BAKU, 10th May, 2016 (WAM) — Azerbaijanis today celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the late President Heydar Alirza oghlu Aliyev, which falls on 10th of May.

The achievements of Azerbaijan in various economic, political, social and defence fields are linked with the name of Aliyev, where, by his efforts, will and ambition, security, stability and peace prevailed throughout the country.

Aliyev was able to consolidate state institutions and strengthen its position in international relations with the adoption of a comprehensive strategy in the field of energy, in addition to laying the foundations for sustainable long-term development in Azerbaijan.

The state’s foreign policy also paid special attention to rebuilding the historical relations between Azerbaijan and the Arab Islamic world, including the United Arab Emirates, when the historic meeting that brought together the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Heydar Aliyev on the sidelines of the OIC Islamic Summit held in Dar Al-Baydaa in 1994, identified the path of bilateral relations between the two countries, building on the basis of friendship and mutual respect and comprehensive cooperation.

The growth and strengthening of cooperation relations between the UAE and Azerbaijan continue now under the leaderships of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Today, Azerbaijan depends on the vision and legacy of the late Heydar Aliyev. Azerbaijan is growing at unprecedented rates of economic growth and has transformed thanks to the democratic and economic reforms of the late President Aliyev, his wise leadership and his active foreign policy.

Azerbaijan plays a pivotal role in regional issues and projects of global importance, such as the TAP gas pipeline, the transportation corridor from north to the south, and the Great Silk Road, in addition to its being an important bridge between the East and the West.

Despite the death of Heydar Alirza oghlu Aliyev 13 years ago, his constructive ideas are still considered a source for the country’s strategy, and, in parallel, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, headed by Azerbaijan’s First Lady, Mehriban Arif qizi Aliyeva, who is also a Goodwill Ambassador for UNESCO and ISESCO, conveys Heydar Aliyev’s heritage to future generations, along with the implementation of humanitarian, cultural and educational projects, throughout the Republic of Azerbaijan and abroad.
