SHARJAH, -- Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Sharjah Heritage Institute Chairman, was appointed as the Honorary President of the International Traditional Sports & Games Association, during his meeting yesterday with Dominique Lauga, President of the Association, and Ahmed Al Shehhi, Vice President, at the headquarters of the institute.
The meeting addressed several ideas, suggestions and initiatives that will contribute to the development of the organisation's activities in the Arab region, as well as the ongoing co-ordination between the institute and the organisation.
Dr. Al Musallam expressed his happiness at being selected as honorary president of the organisation which is especially interested in heritage, general and traditional folk games, as well preserving these games in society and raising public awareness about their importance, while highlighting the role of the Sharjah Heritage Institute in heritage preservation.
He highlighted the UAE and Sharjah governments for their role in preserving all forms of heritage, including folk and traditional games. He pointed out that the Sharjah Heritage Institute is allocating a significant part of its activities on traditional games, especially for the 15th "Sharjah Heritage Days" event on 4th April.
He also stressed that the Folk Games House, located in the heart of Sharjah, aims to revive traditional folk games, and preserve the beautiful components of this original heritage, and introduce them to new generations.
Dr. Al Musallam stated that traditional and folk games represent an important part of national heritage, adding that such components are full of exciting details that relate to the social life in previous periods, and that these games can promote noble values related to solidarity, co-operation, fair competition and teamwork.
