SHARJAH, -- The global sporting spotlight is now on Sharjah with the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, Shurooq, organising and sponsoring the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters, SSGM, held under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The highly popular tour, featuring a host of golf's greatest names, is the perfect addition to Shurooq's ever-increasing investment portfolio, aimed at promoting Sharjah as a global destination with world-class facilities that highlight its prominence and potential on the international sporting map.
The three-day event will commence on 16th March, bringing together a host of world-renowned golfers such as Ronan Rafferty, Jose Rivero, Paul Broadhurst and Barry Lane, among others.
The tournament at the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club will be held every year until 2019 under the sponsorship of Shurooq, reinforcing Sharjah's growing reputation as an important international venue on the sports calendar.
"Shurooq will host this tournament in line with its strategic vision of promoting Sharjah as one of the region's prime tourist and investment havens, while the golf enthusiasts attending the event will have an opportunity to enjoy Sharjah's key features," said Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq.
"This is an excellent opportunity to promote Sharjah, not just as a premier sporting venue, but as a cultural destination in its own right. The popularity of this event, the calibre of the players and the attractions we offer are a great testament to our sports status," he added.
"Many golf professionals regard the UAE's courses as one of the most luxurious in the world. It is also a highly important and prestigious setting for executives to conduct top-level business. Golf is exactly the right fit for Shurooq, and the number of international companies, sponsors and organisers in the golf industry who are choosing the UAE to host world-renowned golf tournaments is increasing significantly every year," Al Sarkal observed.
