Islamabad, 12th Febraury,2016 (WAM) — Widespread rain, thunderstorm and snowfall crippled the life in north western upper parts of Pakistan since last night as temperature dropped to the lowest level for the first time with the start of the winter season.

According to Met Office, heavy snowfall in the high mountain areas recorded two foot in Malakand district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province North West and one foot in Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, Naran-Kaghan and Muree resort which led to the interruption of traffic and paralyzing daily life. Light snowfall is also seen on the capital’s Margalla Hills.

Heavy rainfall occurred in upper Punjab, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi and different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa increasing intensity of the cold.

Rain triggered land sliding in areas of Malakand, Hazara divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. Meteorological Department expects continued snowfall in the north in the next 48 hours.
