LONDON, 12th March, 2017 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), has chaired the meeting of the Board of Trustees of AUS in London.
During the meeting, the Ruler of Sharjah thanked the members of the Board of Trustees for their continuous efforts to develop the AUS.
He also approved several decisions regarding the work at the university, and granted an honorary professorship to Dr. Fawaz Jumaean, one of the pioneers of the teaching staff who served as the Head of the Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences from 1998 until his retirement in 2015.
During the meeting, Dr. Bjorn Kjerfve, Chancellor, American University of Sharjah, praised Dr. Fawaz for his efforts to develop the university.
The Ruler of Sharjah also approved a five-year research plan for the AUS, as well as the budget and plan for the first phase of the research on technology and innovation.
Dr. Kjerfve thanked the Ruler of Sharjah for his wise leadership. "On behalf of the various bodies of the university, I want to thank Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi for his leadership and guidance to the university," he added.
The Chancellor, AUS, revealed that the board, led by the Ruler of Sharjah, had discussed several issues and approved a number of decisions, including the approval of the amendment of tuition fees for the 2017-2018 academic year.
