Tarawneh elected as Jordanian House Speaker

AMMAN, -- Jordan's House of Representatives yesterday elected Deputy Atef Tarawneh as the Lower House speaker in a vote that followed King Abdullah's opening of the legislature's ordinary session.

According to the Petra News Agency, Mr. Tarawneh won 69 votes during the balloting, well ahead of his closest contender, Abdul Karim Dughmi, with 34 votes and Abdullah Al Akayleh with 21 votes.
