Manama (dpa) – A court in Bahrain on Thursday sentenced three people to death and handed seven others life sentences for killing three policemen last year.
A lawyer for the defence also said the government revoked the citizenship of the three sentenced to death. The tactic has been used against dozens in recent months.
The policemen, including a UAE citizen, were killed last March in a bomb attack in a suburb of the capital Manama.
The incident took place on the third day of clashes between protesters and security forces after the death of a youth while in police custody. The family said he died of torture.
Gulf Arab monarchies have sent forces to Bahrain to quell unrest by the Shiite majority protesting against the Sunni ruling family since 2011.
