TOKYO, 2nd February, 2016 (WAM)–Japan, together with Palestine, will co-host the Senior Officials Meeting of the “Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD)” on February 2 and 3, 2016, as a part of efforts toward achieving Middle East peace.

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said that the main objectives of the Conference are to support Palestinian efforts for state building by sharing East Asian countries’ experience in economic development, and expertise assistance to Palestinians, and discussing effective ways of cooperation, so as to promote the Middle East peace process and regional stability.

Participants at the conference, to be held in Hakone near Tokyo, include Japan (host), Palestine (co-host), Brunei, Indonesia, Israel, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam, Islamic Development Bank, UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and World Bank.

Today, a welcome reception will be hosted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and tomorrow, February 3, the actual conference will be held.
