ABU DHABI, Dr. Hatem Ali, Representative of the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, UN, and Chief Executive Officer of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC, in Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC, Countries, described the UAE as a leading international model of developing minds and youth empowerment.
In an interview with the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the "Aqdar International Summit" that was held in Abu Dhabi today, Ali said, "We, at the UN, are proud of our partnership with the UAE in many areas, including in combatting crime and reinforcing our efforts to achieve the UN's sustainable development goals based on 17 pillars."
Regarding the cooperation between the UAE and the UNODC office in GCC countries, he stressed that the cooperation with the UAE in organising the summit has provided an ideal platform for promoting discussions between various participants, to reinforce their efforts to achieve sustainable development.
"We thank the UAE for its leading annual efforts to organise this global event, which promotes discussions related to exchanging policies and strategies between experts from many countries," he added.
He further added that this year's summit focussed on a key issue, which is how to work with the youth and communities to achieve sustainable development while noting that the summit will issue recommendations for empowering communities, to achieve security and stability.
Ali also thanked the UAE for sponsoring and hosting the UNODC office in its capital, Abu Dhabi, while highlighting its desire to support the entire region and strengthen its defences against security threats and organised crime.
The summit is an ideal platform for its participants, who are leaders, decision-makers, experts and leading companies from around the world, to promote discussions in the UAE on the latest topics and challenges facing the creation of sustainable communities and individual development.
The second edition of the summit aimed to ingrain ethical principles and values among individuals and communities, to create sustainable communities, as well as launch initiatives to raise awareness and achieve community development.
