VIENNA, 24th April, 2016 (WAM) — Fahad Abualnasr, Chief of Staff of the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) in Vienna, Austria, said the UAE, which is a model of moderation, tolerance and rejection of extremism, is strongly admired by Europe, specifically by key European figures visiting the centre.
In an exclusive interview with the Emirates News Agency, WAM, Abualnasr confirmed that the steps taken by the UAE to combat hate speech and extremism, especially through legislation which criminalises contempt of religions, are seen in Europe as vital and important steps in this area.
He also pointed out that the UAE today is an example of moderate Islam that should be spread among the larger Muslim community, thanks to the UAE’s adaptation to modern science to the service of Islam and enhancement of culture of respect for religions. He cited that the UAE criminalises contempt of religions.
Abualnasr highlighted the UAE’s efforts to improve the image of Islam and Muslims in the world, and hailed the fact that the country was the first to enact the legislation and laws to outlaw the defamation of religions.
