NEW YORK, --- The role of economic development in countering poverty, the eradication of extremism and human development was discussed on Thursday during a meeting between Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State, and Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly, which has as its theme "The Sustainable Development Goals: a universal push to transform our world."
The meeting covered a wide range of topics of mutual interest including sustainable development as a key to addressing the world's most pressing challenges, including poverty and extremism in all its forms.
Dr Al Jaber said, "The UAE is committed to supporting all efforts aimed at realising a better future for all - including the UN's sustainable development goals, which provide a blueprint for future sustainable development."
