CAIRO, -- The United Arab Emirates, represented by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, GAIAE, is participating in a two-day International Conference, "Qualifying and Educating Religious Leadership in the Issuance of Fatwa in Mosque Communities of Muslim Minority Countries", in Egypt.

In a speech during the conference, Dr. Mohammed Matar Salem bin Abid Al Kaabi, Chairman of GAIAE, referred to the great efforts exerted by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Egpyt's Dar al-Iftaa entrepreneurial initiatives that deal with contemporary issues and show the true beauty of Islam and its tolerant civilisation.

Dr. Al Kaabi said that the right way to counter extremism and militancy lies in moderate religious awareness, giving appropriate support to leaders of religious ideology, and communication with them in accordance with plans under the supervision of religious institutions in the Muslim world.

The conference, which is due to finish later today, is covering a number of vital issues relating to Muslim minorities in western countries, and covers mechanisms on how to prepare Imams to handle extremism and encounter the challenges facing Muslim communities.
