CAIRO, -- The debut race of the 24th President of the UAE Cup Series for Pure-bred Arabian Horses will be held in Cairo on Saturday.
The prestigious equestrian event is being held under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and under instructions of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
Established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayhan to promote and celebrate the Arabian horse, the President of the UAE Cup Series was the first international purebred Arabian horse race series, and today is still considered the premier racing series for the breed.
A strong field of 58 horses will compete in six rounds for a cash prize of EGP490,000.
Mattar Al Yabhouni, Head of the Organising Committee, said the opening of the President Cup season will be held in Cairo for the second year running to support and encourage horse owners and breeders in Egypt.
"Cairo's debut will mark a milestone in the course of the equestrian sports in the Arab World and beyond,'' he stated.
Faisal Al Rahmani, Supervisor-General of the Cup, said the 24th Cup will stage races in eight international premier racecourses in US and major European capitals.
The UAE has become a strong supporter of its mission to bring the culture and heritage of Arabian Peninsula to the forefront through its prized possession, the purebred Arabian horses.
The Emirates Equestrian Federation launched the President of the UAE Cup Series for Pure-bred Arabian Horses in 1994 to promote the noble breed globally. It is now growing in popularity and appeal.
The series boosts the UAE's efforts to build awareness for the purebred Arabian horse globally and its significant place in the culture and history of the UAE.
