UNAMA condemns attack at Kandahar airport in Afghanistan

KABUL, 11th December, 2015 (WAM) -- The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has condemned Afghan insurgents' attack at Kandahar Airport, which reportedly killed 39 civilians, including four children, and injured at least 23 civilians.

The UNAMA in a statement reiterated that international humanitarian law, which applies to all parties to the conflict in Afghanistan, including the Taliban, prohibits attacks against civilians at any time and in any place. This includes families of Afghan security forces and other civilians not participating in the conduct of hostilities. Additionally, parties to the conflict must take all feasible precautions to protect the civilian population against the effects of attacks.

The UN Mission expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and a speedy recovery to the injured.
