RIYADH, 12th October, 2016 (WAM) — Matthew Tueller, US Ambassador to Yemen, has said that the USA is seriously considering the exposure of its vessels which may be targeted by the Houthi and Saleh militia in the international waters in the Bab al-Mandeb strait in Yemen, stressing that the international community is committed to the protection of maritime navigation in the strait and the Houthis must immediately stop such attacks.

The Yemen News Agency reported that Tueller reaffirmed his country’s continued support for the legitimate government and the need for “everyone to work for a comprehensive and peaceful solution”, describing this as the firm position of the international community.

The US Ambassador expressed his hope to achieve peace in Yemen, saying that attempted attacks by militia on American vessels is an indication of a desire to destabilise the region and international navigation.

Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, President of the Republic of Yemen, expressed his regrets for the escalation by coup forces and the Houthis, the latest of which was the recent attempt to target the US destroyer USS Mason and the UAE aid vessel, HSV-2 Swift, near Bab al-Mandeb.

The President added that such practices reinforce international awareness of the dangers of such gangs and their terrorist actions on the regional and international stability.
