BANGUI, 30th December, 2015 (WAM) — Voters in the Central African Republic began to cast their ballots today in a presidential election hoping to restore democratic rule in a country divided by years of violence.

30 candidates are competing for the Presidency, with leading candidates include former Prime Ministers Anicet-Georges Dologuele and Martin Ziguele.

The elections have been postponed several times due to the continuing lack of security in a number of areas under the control of armed groups and authorities being busy with a constitutional referendum.
