Zayed University’s research excellence recognised in Times Higher Education Arab University Rankings

ABU DHABI, The second Arab University Rankings published by Times Higher Education highlighted Zayed University’s research as a key strength for the institution.

Zayed University saw its “Citation” score receive a 13 percent increase against last year’s rankings. The citation score examines research influence by capturing the average number of times a university’s published work is cited by scholars globally. According to The Times Higher Education methodology the citations “help to show us how much each university is contributing to the sum of human knowledge: they tell us whose research has stood out, has been picked up and built on by other scholars and, most importantly, has been shared around the global scholarly community to expand the boundaries of our understanding, irrespective of discipline.”

Commenting on the latest rankings, Dr. Michael Allen, Acting Provost and Chief Academic Officer, said, “As a University we have made a concerted effort to increase our research capabilities and these rankings are testament to the work of everyone at Zayed University. Seeing our research make an impact beyond our campus is enormously rewarding. We are always looking to expand in this area and just this month announced the first of our new research centres with the launch of the Zai Centre, which focuses on the teaching and learning of Arabic language. These new research centres are the next stage in our transformation and will work on challenging, big projects which are aligned with the UAE national agenda.”

Overall Zayed University, which currently undertaking pioneering transformation strategy which is equipping students for the jobs of the future was ranked in the 61-70 band regionally. As of August 2022, all undergraduate students enrolling in Zayed University join the new interdisciplinary degree programmes, which are taught using best in class active learning techniques. All students also participate in Zayed University’s unique partner challenge programme which provide students with an opportunity to work alongside local and international companies giving them the valuable real-world experience needed to thrive in their career.

The new degree programmes are in line with the UAE’s Centennial 2071 plan and Projects of the 50 which are focused on improving the education system as part of the Government’s plans to build a stronger and more innovative nation.
