ABU DHABI, The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) is set to launch the 14th annual vaccination campaign 2022-2023 against diseases affecting livestock in Abu Dhabi, from 28 August 2022 to 31 May 2023. To enhance the biosecurity system by improving animal immunity and eradicating epidemic diseases, the campaign targets controlling three diseases, including peste des petits ruminants (PPR), foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), and crystalline inflammation.

The vaccination campaign will consist of three stages; the first one is to vaccinate animals against PPR, while the second stage targets vaccinating livestock against FMD and crystalline inflammation. Meanwhile, the third stage aims to vaccinate animals against FMD and crystalline inflammation.

The campaign will witness vaccinating about 2,182,870 animals (cows, goats, sheep) against FMD, while 943,398 goats would be vaccinated against crystalline inflammation. Moreover, the needed vaccines would be administrated to sheep and goats against PPR.

ADAFSA’s regular vaccination campaigns aim to prevent the outbreak of epidemic diseases and boosting livestock immunity, thus enhancing the biosecurity system in the emirate. The campaign also contributes to reducing the use of veterinary medicines and eradicating diseases in the long term, thereby developing the livestock sector and increasing economic returns for livestock breeders.

On the other hand, ADAFSA urges livestock breeders to collaborate with vaccination teams and follow guidelines, to help vaccinate their animals successfully. To facilitate the process, breeders are advised to contact the nearest veterinary clinic to schedule a visit and prepare animals for the vaccination process.
