Etihad Airways named most punctual airline in Middle East

ABU DHABI, Official Airline Guides Database (OAG), the global aviation analytics group, has named Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, as the most punctual airline in the Middle East and among the most reliable in the world.

In its Punctuality League rating for 2022, OAG listed Etihad as the best in the GCC region.

Etihad has achieved an on-time arrival performance within 15 minutes of 81 percent. It also continued to maintain one of the lowest cancellation rates worldwide, ensuring an enhanced guest experience with trustworthy flight schedules.

Mohammad Al Bulooki, Chief Operating Officer of Etihad Airways, said that delivering a safe and reliable airline operation is always the first priority. “Our commitment to our guests, flying for business or leisure, is that Etihad delivers to its schedule; the airline continues to strive to increase its reliability through the efforts of its people and the deployment of technology and innovation.”

On-time performance is defined by OAG as a flight arriving within 15 minutes of its scheduled time, a standard measure within the airline industry, taking into account the range of variable factors which can affect operations.

Etihad’s home base, Abu Dhabi International Airport, was also placed in the top five most punctual airports in the Middle East.

Expanded Youth MMA Championship begins this weekend at Mubadala Arena

ABU DHABI, The UAE Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Committee has revealed that, such is the high demand among young fighters to compete in this weekend’s Youth MMA Championship, the competition will run over two days rather than the traditional one.

The extended tournament is set to be held this weekend at the recently rebranded Mubadala Arena at Zayed Sports City and will feature 78 of the best young men and women in the UAE. It is the third iteration of the championship, the first that spans an entire weekend, and is open to the public.

Mohammed bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the UAE MMA Committee, which was established in 2021 under the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), said the interest shown in this weekend’s championship is further proof of the heightened demand for MMA competition among the country’s youth.

“The organisation of this tournament aligns with the Federation’s efforts to spread the popularity of MMA in the country, boost participation across all ages, highlight certain talents, and develop programmes that will contribute to raising the overall level of talent,” said Al Dhaheri. “The youth represent not only the future but are also critical in establishing a national team capable of competing at the largest international tournaments.”

The organising committee confirmed that as part of its efforts to strengthen the country’s position as a global destination for MMA, it has witnessed a growing desire among the younger generations to get acquainted with the sport and its professionalism.

The organising committee of the tournament confirmed its full readiness to host the fights at the Mubadala Arena – formerly the Jiu Jitsu Arena – in accordance with the highest organisational and professional standards.

Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities, Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs to set up cultural centre

ABU DHABI, Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities and the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a cultural centre in Solo, Central Java Province, to enhance cultural and intellectual cooperation between the two parties.

The planned centre aims to provide educational, cultural and community services to the local population in the designated area, as well as contribute to the promotion of economic, investment and urban development opportunities in the community.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Khaled Al-Yabhouni Al Dhaheri, Chancellor of Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities, and Prof. Dr. Phil. Kamaruddin Amin, Director-General of Islamic Community Guidance, on behalf of the Ministry.

The terms of the memorandum specified the commitment of each party to fulfill this important undertaking, which will be a beacon of intellectual and cultural renaissance in Indonesia.

Dr. Al Dhaheri stressed that the university’s decision to commit to this joint project is a reflection of its mission to promote cultural and intellectual development in the humanities in Muslim societies and forms an integral part of its strategy to forge partnerships with interested and like-minded institutions, such as the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia, that contribute significantly to accomplishing this goal.

He added, “Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities strives to contribute to enhancing the cultural and intellectual capabilities of Muslim communities, fully aware that this will not only help pave the way for their future development, but also achieve greater understanding and cooperation throughout the world in light of the many transformative changes the global community is witnessing across many aspects and fields of society.”

According to Dr. Al Dhaheri, the upcoming cultural centre would bring about a great cultural and intellectual renaissance in Indonesia, and further emphasised that Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities will spare no effort to achieve this goal, through the completion of this vital project according to the plan laid down in the agreement.

‘Hayat’ enrols more than 10,000 organ donors

ABU DHABI, Following the announcement of the Abu Dhabi community campaign supporting the National Programme for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation “Hayat”, the number of registrants in the National Programme for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation “Hayat” programme has reached more than 10,000 organ donors from different nationalities, backgrounds and ages.

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with several partners in the public and private sectors, has launched the Abu Dhabi community campaign supporting the programme. The campaign aims to encourage community members to register as organ and tissue donors, improving the quality of life of patients suffering from organ failure.

Abdulla bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, and the management team members in the department were among the first to register as organ and tissue donors in the campaign.

The community campaign was launched during the International Conference for Initiatives on Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation hosted by Abu Dhabi on 7th-9th November 2022, and has since expanded its scope through a series of community events and activities, including the Zayed Charity Marathon and ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon 2022, alongside several others organised by the campaign’s partners.

Dr. Rashed Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of Healthcare Workforce Planning Sector, said, “We are pleased with the achievement of the campaign since its launch, as it witnessed an incredible community interaction reflecting community awareness and solidarity in Abu Dhabi. We continue to achieve the campaign’s goals and support ‘Hayat’, backed by our vision of making Abu Dhabi a healthy community. The numbers registered in the programme prove the community’s keenness to participate in this noble humanitarian act, which contributes to saving the lives of many desperate for help.”

Dr. Ali Al Obaidli, Chairman of UAE National Transplant Committee, stated “‘Hayat’ is a synergy of collaborative efforts of many federal and local entities, as well as governmental and private institutions, to achieve a lofty goal based on saving the lives of many, and instilling hope for the well-being of communities in the UAE and the region.”

The Abu Dhabi community campaign encourages all community members to register their request to donate organs and tissues post-mortem, highlighting the success achieved by Abu Dhabi and showcasing the emirate’s experience and capabilities in organ and tissue areas donation and transplantation.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among the community on the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle, avoiding the chance of developing lifestyle-related diseases and organ failure, and thus reducing the need for transplantation. This awareness includes regular physical activity and adopting a healthy diet to avoid chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and other health conditions.

UAE, Pakistan issue joint statement affirming keenness to strengthen their strategic partnership

ABU DHABI, The UAE and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have affirmed their keenness to intensify consultations and coordination in order to strengthen their strategic partnership, with a view to developing tangible and meaningful bilateral cooperation in key areas.

This came in a joint statement which the two countries issued on the occasion of the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, to the UAE.

The full text of the joint statement is as follows:

“Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, paid a visit to the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on 12th-13th January. This was the Prime Minister’s third visit after assuming office.

Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, wherein the Prime Minister was presented with a guard of honour at the Presidential Palace. In the most warm and cordial meeting, the two leaders held detailed discussions on concrete measures to strengthen the bilateral relationship while also exchanging views on regional political and security matters. They also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in political, defense, economic, commercial and cultural areas, developing joint ventures, and strengthening collaboration in the human resource sector.

The Prime Minister thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for UAE’s generous assistance during the recent floods in Pakistan, particularly through an air bridge established for this purpose.

With a view to developing tangible and meaningful bilateral cooperation in key areas, the two sides agreed to intensify consultation and coordination geared to strengthening strategic partnership and cooperation, particularly in the field of information and communication technologies and work together for bridging the digital divide.

Pakistan and the UAE reaffirmed their historical and brotherly ties, rooted in shared religion, culture, values, and pursuit of regional and global peace and security. Both sides expressed satisfaction at the convergence of views on a host of regional and global issues.

Based on their decades-old fraternal ties, both countries expressed solidarity with each other in efforts to preserve their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

With a view to developing tangible and meaningful bilateral cooperation in key areas, the two countries agreed to intensify consultations and coordination in order to strengthen their strategic partnership.

The two sides signed Memoranda of Understanding in the field of combating human trafficking, information exchange, and between the diplomatic academies of both countries.”
