Four new sponsors join Gov Games 2023

DUBAI, The Organising Committee of the Gov Games has signed sponsorship agreements with four national entities to support the fourth edition of the high-energy team-building challenge.

The entities include the First Abu Dhabi Bank, Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du), Dubai Design District (d3), and Lululemon from Majid Al Futtaim Group.

The new set of sponsors will join the Main Sponsor, DP World, and the Golden Sponsor, Emarat General Petroleum (EMARAT) in their efforts to contribute to the expansion of the Gov Games tournament, which is scheduled to be held from 2-5 March 2023, in d3.

Marwan bin Issa, Director of Gov Games, said, “Ever since H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, launched the Gov Games in 2018, the event has received tremendous support from the public and private organisations across the UAE. This contributed to positioning Dubai as a sports destination, and one of the most active cities in the world.”

The fourth edition of Gov Games will feature a newly announced category, Battle of the Cities, where teams from 28 major cities across the world will compete to win the global Gov Games title. In addition, the Gov Games include the Government categories for men and women from the local and federal government entities, beside the Community category.

Registration is still open to join the games until 9th February 2023.

Nine missing after fishing boat capsizes in Korea

ABU DHABI, Korean authorities said that nine people went missing late Saturday after their boat capsized in waters near Daebichi island in the sea county of Sinan, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The 24-tonne vessel had overturned on Saturday in waters 16.6 kilometres west of the island of Daebichi, the authorities said.

Three of the boat crew were rescued by a nearby boat and were transported to a hospital, the authorities said. Nine others, however, are still unaccounted for.

UAE leaders condole President of Pakistan on death of Pervez Musharraf

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a cable of condolences to President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, over the death of Former President Pervez Musharraf.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has dispatched similar cable of condolences to President Arif Alvi.

‘Joint Emirates Shield / 51’ launched

ABU DHABI, The Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence announced the launch of the “Joint Emirates Shield / 51” military exercise.

The exercise is part of a series of operational drills aimed at boosting combat readiness of the UAE Armed Forces’ major units.

Joint forces from Ground, Presidential Guard, Navy, Air Defence, and Joint Aviation Command, are participating in the drills, which are being carried out within the waters, airspace and territory of the UAE.

Major General Saleh Mohammed bin Mujren Al Ameri, Commander of the Joint Operations, said that the first phase was concluded successfully after completing all mobilisation duties in a timely manner.

17th Forum of UAE ambassadors, representatives of missions abroad begins tomorrow

ABU DHABI, The 17th forum of UAE ambassadors and representatives of missions abroad, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will begin tomorrow under the title ‘The United Arab Emirates, a Bright Present and a Promising Future’.

The forum will address key issues shaping the future of the country’s foreign policy, as well as geostrategic developments at the regional and international levels.

This year’s forum, which will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation until February 9, will include more than 25 sessions attended by ministers, senior officials, ambassadors, heads of UAE missions abroad, heads of departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and government institutions and agencies in various fields. The forum will address major issues in the fields of politics, economy, innovation, education, culture, advanced science and technology, the country’s technological advancement, climate change mitigation and environmental protection in view of the UAE’s preparations to host COP28, and future plans in service of the UAE Government’s strategy.

The forum is held annually and provides an important opportunity for interaction, dialogue, and the exchange of views and ideas with senior figures and officials in the UAE, as well as ambassadors and representatives of missions abroad, on regional and international developments to enhance the effectiveness of the UAE’s foreign policy.
