UAE-Finland Political Consultation Committee discusses strengthening cooperation

ABU DHABI, The first session of the Political Consultation Committee between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) and Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland commenced today at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi.

The meeting was chaired by Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Political Affairs and the UAE Permanent Representative to the United Nations, alongside Kai Sauer, Under-Secretary of State, Foreign and Security Policy in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

During the consultations, both parties reviewed the development of bilateral relations and joint cooperation, as well as ways to enhance ties.

The two sides also raised current regional and international developments and both countries’ positions on these issues.

Both parties then discussed the convergence of positions on various issues in order to address challenges in the regional and international arenas.

UAE leaders congratulate Slovenian president on winning presidential elections

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a message of congratulations to Natasa Pirc Musar on winning Slovenia’s presidential elections.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai also sent a similar message to Natasa Pirc Musar congratulating her on the victory.

MIKATI HOLDS MINISTERIAL MEETINGS, DISCUSSES LEBANON’S PARTICIPATION IN FRANCOPHONE SUMMIT WITH ABI RAMIA

Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Tuesday held a series of ministerial meetings at the Grand Serail, where he met with Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdullah Bou Habib, with whom he discussed an array of ministerial affairs.

Mikati then discussed with Caretaker Tourism Minister, Walid Nassar, the media campaign that will be launched to promote tourism in Lebanon in the winter season, especially during the holidays.

The Minister of Tourism expressed delight that flights to Lebanon were fully booked this season and that efforts were underway to increase the number of flights. “Hotel reservations are very acceptable, and God willing, the festive season will be successful in the case of political stability.”

The Premiere later had an audience with Caretaker Minister of Justice, Henry Khoury, who informed him about the resumption of judicial work at the Justice Palace.

The Prime Minister then received the Lebanese Parliament’s representative at the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly, MP Simon Abi Ramia, with whom he discussed Lebanon’s participation in the Francophone Summit, which will be held on the island of Djerba in Tunisia on the 19th and 20th of November.

Lebanon will be represented by a delegation to be headed by Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad Makary.

Mikati later welcomed MP Wael Abu Faour, who said: “Of course, our main concern and our top priority is the election of a new president of the republic.”

He added, “In the meantime, I wished of PM Mikati to have concerned ministries continue carrying out their duties to alleviate the sufferings of the Lebanese.”

“We are open to a settlement, and we have a candidate that we support and believe that he conforms to the specifications that we hope the new President of the Republic will enjoy. Let the other party present its options instead of escalating their stances through the media,” Abou Faour added.

Mikati separately held talks with head of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Tripoli and North Lebanon, Tawfiq Dabboussi, who visited him with an accompanying delegation.

UAE leaders offer condolences to President of Türkiye over victims of terrorist explosion

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a message of condolences to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Türkiye, over the explosion in Istanbul’s Istiklal Street which resulted in a number of deaths and injuries.

In his message, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed wished a quick recovery for all the injured.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, sent a similar message to President Erdogan.

Reem Al Hashemy meets Vice President of Guyana

ABU DHABI, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, met with Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, Vice President of Guyana, during his visit to the UAE.

During the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi, the two sides reviewed cooperation between the UAE and Guyana and efforts to advance ties in all areas, most notably in the development, economic, and infrastructure fields.

Al Hashimy and Jagdeo also discussed several issues of mutual concern, including the food and energy sectors, as well as support for international efforts to address climate change, specifically, the UAE’s hosting of COP28 next year.

Al Hashimy then affirmed the importance of highlighting the role and needs of developing countries in discussions on climate change, while Jagdeo expressed his country’s keenness to enhance overall relations with the UAE and benefit from the UAE’s significant economic growth.

In addition, Al Hashimy and Jagdeo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in cybersecurity to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in countering cyberattacks.
