ABU DHABI, The UAE Health Council recently held a meeting in Dubai to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and the integration of health efforts, initiatives, and projects, as well as key health issues and strategic plans, including the standardisation of medical licenses for health practitioners, and the establishment of the UAE Center for Disease Prevention and Control and the UAE Food and Drug Center.

The meeting, chaired by Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, reviewed the UAE’s recent achievements in the health sector, thanks to its wise leadership’s support and directives, as well as its eagerness to constantly improve the public’s health and safety.

Al Owais stressed that the UAE’s achievements in the health field would not have been possible without the wise leadership’s support and directives to maintain the public’s health and safety, coupled with the efforts of health workers.

Representatives from the private medical sector, which is viewed as a strategic partner in the development of the country’s healthcare, were also present at the meeting.

The gathering aimed to support the efforts made by various health entities to achieve national health goals by formulating a futuristic roadmap for the country’s health sector, based upon global health changes and the future of health care services.

The council also reviewed a package of leading projects to upgrade the UAE’s health system, in line with the country’s plans for the next fifty years, which seek to carefully map out the country’s future and lay the foundation for a comprehensive development plan.

Other topics discussed during the meeting include the possibility of creating a unified national contact centre during pandemics and health crises, establishing the health cloud, reviewing amendments made to the Public Health and Communicable Diseases Law, challenges facing the health insurance sector, and treatment in private medical facilities.

The Council also approved a number of decisions to improve the country’s health sector efficiency and support coordination and unified work between federal and local health authorities, as well as their strategic partners, where joint committees will be formed to study the initiatives presented to the council.

The council is also responsible for organising medical conferences and forums, as well as supporting the Continuous Medical Education Program (CME), in order to aid in the completion of the goals set by public health policies. This is in addition to coordinating with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) to develop academic policy on health and medical science education, within the UAE and abroad.

Mubadala Health CEO listed among Middle East’s top five healthcare leaders by Forbes top 50 rankings

ABU DHABI, Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, CEO of Mubadala Health, has been named among the top five healthcare leaders in the region in the inaugural ‘Middle East’s Top 50 Healthcare Leaders’ ranking by Forbes Middle East.

Al Nowais was the highest placed healthcare leader in the UAE, on a list that includes leaders representing regional and global organisations, including hospitals and clinics, pharmaceutical companies, diagnostics centres and health technology providers.

The ranking takes into account the leader’s profile and experience, in addition to the size of the company, its impact on patients across the region, the creation of innovative initiatives, diversity of operations, and ownership of assets.

The UAE dominated the list, with 25 of the 50 firms based in the country, of which five companies are located in Abu Dhabi.

“I am delighted and humbled to be included in Forbes Middle East’s first-ever ‘Top 50 Healthcare Leaders’ ranking, alongside some of the strongest experts in the industry from across the region. The ranking is truly a testament to the hard work and dedication of all teams across Mubadala Health’s integrated network of world-class facilities, who have each contributed to our unified vision of reshaping the healthcare landscape in the UAE and wider region,” said Al Nowais.

“By constantly striving to expand and elevate our offering and expertise, we have reduced the need for patients to travel abroad, as they are now able to access internationally recognised centres of excellence right here in the UAE. We are also proud to be home to state-of-the-art facilities, with world-renowned caregivers and innovative technologies that ensure our communities have access to the highest quality of patient care.”

Mubadala Health was opened in January 2021 to integrate a network of world-class healthcare providers, including Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, Healthpoint, Amana Healthcare, National Reference Laboratory, Capital Health Screening Centre, and Abu Dhabi Telemedicine Centre. In 2021 Mubadala Health acquired UEMedical as part of its expanding portfolio of healthcare assets, which added to its portfolio Danat Al Emarat hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital Abu Dhabi, and the HealthPlus Network of Specialty Centers, in addition to a stake in Al Meswak clinics in Saudi Arabia.

Earlier this year, Mubadala Health also announced a collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority and the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention to launch a 125,000 square-foot stand-alone day surgery and medical facility in Dubai in Q3 2022.

“Our ambition is to put the patient at the heart of everything we do to improve their experience and the outcome of their treatment across our network of facilities. This integration is key and has ensured that Mubadala Health is able to advance holistic and preventative care to the next level,” added Al Nowais.
