Asian-African Organisation for Human Rights commends UAE’s for making COVID-19 vaccines available for all

ABU DHABI, Chairman of the Asian-African Organisation for Human Rights, Muhammad Al Jubayri, has praised the efforts of the UAE and its Rulers in making COVID-19 vaccines available to the largest possible number of citizens and residents, and its efforts to support the global efforts to distribute billions of vaccines.

In a press statement, Al-Jubayri said that the number of COVID-19 doses provided in the UAE reached more than 12 million doses, which is a great achievement that reflects the success of the UAE in enhancing community awareness towards achieving community immunity and recovering from the pandemic.

Al-Jubayri added that the UAE ranked first in the world in terms of the speed of launching its vaccination programme, and implementing effective vaccination campaigns aimed at enhancing confidence in the safety of vaccines available in the country and their full use by the entire population.

He stressed that the success in reaching the record number of vaccine doses is the result of the vision and directives of the country’s leadership and the efforts of the health sector and all workers in the first line of defence. The UAE, through the vision and direction of its leadership and the concerted efforts of all its institutions, is moving steadily towards recovery from the pandemic, he noted.

UAE announces 2,236 new COVID-19 cases, 2,206 recoveries, 4 deaths in last 24 hours

ABU DHABI, The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced that it conducted 239,852 additional COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment.

In a statement, the Ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment. As part of its intensified testing campaign, MoHAP announced 2,236 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 565,451.

According to the Ministry, the infected individuals are from various nationalities, are in a stable condition, and receiving the necessary care.

MoHAP also announced 4 deaths due to COVID-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 1,668.

The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and wished COVID-19 patients a speedy and full recovery. It called on all members of the society to cooperate with health authorities, adhere to the instructions and physical distance to ensure the health and safety of all.

MoHAP also noted that an additional 2,206 individuals had fully recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 545,229.

116,422 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered during past 24 hours: MoHAP

ABU DHABI, The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced that 116,422 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were given in the past 24 hours.

The total number of doses provided up to today stands at 12,531,970 with a rate of vaccine distribution of 126.71 doses per 100 people.

This is in line with the Ministry’s plan to provide the vaccine to all members of society and efforts to reach acquired immunity resulting from the vaccination, which will help reduce the number of cases and control the virus.

Tawam Hospital successfully treats 11-year-old girl with acute lymphoblastic leukemia

AL AIN , Tawam Hospital, part of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), has successfully treated an 11-year-old girl named Mayar, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of blood and bone marrow cancer.

Dr. Anwar Salam, Group Chief Medical Officer, SEHA, said, “As part of our commitment at SEHA to provide the community with world-class care, the oncology centre at Tawam Hospital is led by an integrated multidisciplinary team of consultant doctors and qualified specialists, and the latest technologies to appropriately diagnose and provide treatment. The latest success story of treating an 11-year-old with acute lymphoblastic leukemia serves as testament to the quality of expertise and services available within the network that serves the wider UAE community.”

Mayar visited Tawam Hospital in April 2017, where she was diagnosed, and soon after started chemotherapy, which lasted for approximately 2 years. The young girl was then diagnosed with relapse acute lymphoblastic leukemia, but even after treatment, her tests revealed the continuation of more than 15 percent abnormal cells.

The doctors started Mayar on Blinatumomab, an injection used to treat B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in remission with minimal residual disease (MRD), to prepare her for a bone marrow transplant, until there were no remaining abnormal cells nor cancer cells. She then travelled to Jordan to receive the transplant.

Dr. Mohammed Faisal Khanani, Head of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology, Tawam Hospital, said, “The highly qualified team of medical professionals and availability of advanced technology as part of the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology at Tawam Hospital ensured Mayar received best-in-class care.”

Mayar’s father said, “A cancer diagnosis is always feared, especially in children. As parents, we were in great shock, it shook our world, but the treatment opportunities and recovery rate gave us hope. More than 85 percent of children with acute lymphoblastic get cured with current treatment modalities – this helped us stay positive throughout the process. Undergoing treatment is a challenging phase as your child faces difficulties. My daughter fought and has won, she now dreams to become a doctor to help others like her.”

In a statement, the Ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment. As part of its intensified testing campaign, MoHAP announced 2,167 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 563,215.

According to the Ministry, the infected individuals are from various nationalities, are in a stable condition, and receiving the necessary care.

MoHAP also announced 3 deaths due to COVID-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 1,664.

The Ministry expressed its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and wished COVID-19 patients a speedy and full recovery. It called on all members of the society to cooperate with health authorities, adhere to the instructions and physical distance to ensure the health and safety of all.
