World Meteorological Day: A new chapter in global meteorology


ABU DHABI: The world celebrated World Meteorological Day on the 23rd of March, a day that highlights the significant importance of meteorology in our daily lives and its crucial role in protecting lives and properties.

This day is an opportunity to appreciate the efforts made in the field of meteorology and weather forecasting, as well as to raise awareness about climate change and its impact on our planet.

On this occasion, Dr. Abdullah Al-Mandous , the President of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), delivered a speech that underscores the achievements made in this sector and emphasises the need for enhancing international cooperation to face current and future meteorological and climatic challenges.

This year’s World Meteorological Day holds particular significance as it marks a pivotal moment for the organisation with the election of a new President and Secretary-General. This transition is poised to infuse fresh perspectives and renewed momentum into the World Meteorological Organisation’s en
deavours.

The newly elected leaders are expected to navigate the complexities of global climate dynamics with innovative strategies and enhanced international collaboration, aiming to steer the organisation towards greater heights in addressing the pressing challenges of weather, water, and climate phenomena.

On this occasion, Dr. Abdullah Al-Mandous said, as the newly appointed President of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), it is my esteemed honour to address the global community on the auspicious occasion of World Meteorological Day.

This year, as we commemorate the significant strides made in meteorology and its pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future, we also embark on a new chapter, one that is marked by unity, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to our planet’s well-being.

The theme for World Meteorological Day this year, “At the front line of climate action,” highlights the intricate relationship between our climate and water resources. It serves as a poignant reminder of the c
hallenges we face due to climate variability and change, and the urgent need for concerted action to ensure water security for all.

He added, “In my first year as President, I am deeply committed to fostering international collaboration and leveraging cutting-edge science and technology to enhance weather, climate, and water-related services worldwide.”Our efforts are aimed at not only advancing our understanding of the Earth’s atmospheric phenomena but also at harnessing this knowledge to safeguard lives, protect property, and promote economic development.”

He emphasised that the importance of meteorological services in mitigating the negative impacts of climate change cannot be understated. It is of utmost importance to enhance early warning systems for severe weather events and to provide ongoing support for water resource management and agriculture. Therefore, the role of meteorology in building resilient communities and ecosystems is critically vital,he added.

He called on governments, organisations
, and individuals to join in a global partnership to face the urgent challenges presented by climate change. ”Together, we can foster a culture of preparedness and innovation for a sustainable future and ensure that meteorology continues as a beacon of hope and a driver of progress.”

Finally, he addressed the international community, stating, “As we move forward, let us remember that our actions today will shape the climate legacy we leave for future generations. Let us strive for a world where harmony between humanity and nature prevails, guided by the principles of sustainability, equity, and scientific excellence.”

The environment and cleanness program on Saturday honored the Yemeni news agency (Saba) for efforts and contribution in support of the program and cleanness in general.

Advisor to the prime minister for environment and media met with Saba vice-chairman and handed out a merit certificate, hailing the agency as the best media environment cooperating with the program.

Saba is interested in keeping in line with activities conducted by the program and in enhancing the efforts to preserve environment in Sana’a and other governorates, the agency’s vice-chairman said.

President Al-Mashat offers his condolences to Russian President on criminal attack’s victims

His Excellency Field Marshal Mahdi Al-Mashat, Head of the Supreme Political Council, sent a message of condolence to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the friendly Russian people, and the families of the victims in the criminal attack near the capital, Moscow.

His Excellency President Al-Mashat condemned in the strongest terms the criminal attack that took place in a hall near the Russian capital, Moscow, which resulted in many victims and injuries. He wished recovery for all those injured.

Emirates Islamic Bank contributes AED 5 million to Mothers’ Endowment campaign


DUBAI: Emirates Islamic Bank has contributed AED 5 million in support of the Mothers’ Endowment campaign, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to honor mothers by establishing a AED 1 billion endowment fund that will support the education of millions of individuals around the world.

With this donation, EIB joins a growing list of businesses and individuals who support the campaign and its aims of spreading education and knowledge across underprivileged communities.

Significant addition

Hesham Abdulla Al Qassim, Chairman of Emirates Islamic Bank, said: ‘The Mothers’ Endowment campaign is a significant addition to the UAE’s humanitarian profile with its focus on mobilizing efforts to establish an endowment fund dedicated to sustainable education. This generous campaign allows everyone to contribute to its noble aims, and has seen a wide response proving the UAE community’s rooted values of solidarity and generosity.’

The Mothers’ Endowment campaign gives contributors the chance to make donations in honor of their mothers, while sustainably supporting the education of underprivileged individuals.

The campaign, which revives the culture of endowments as a development tool, promotes the values of honoring parents, kindness, compassion and solidarity, while solidifying the UAE’s leading humanitarian role by offering a sustainable endowment that provides opportunities for education and empowerment across underprivileged communities.

Donations are also possible via bank transfers in the UAE dirham to the campaign bank account number with Emirates Islamic Bank (AE790340003708472909201). Donations via SMS are possible by sending the word ‘Mother’ to the following numbers (1034, 1035, 1036, 1038) for Etisalat by e and users. Other possible platforms for donating to the campaign are the DubaiNow app by clicking the ‘Donations’ tab, and Dubai’s community contributions platform Jood (Jood.ae).
