5.6-Magnitude Quake Hits Northwest China

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake jolted Baicheng County in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Wednesday evening, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter was monitored at 41.98 degrees north latitude and 82.56 degrees east longitude with a depth of 16 km, said a report issued by the CENC.

The last earthquake in China was on March 5 measuring 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale which jolted Zadoi County in northwest China’s Qinghai Province.

Switzerland to Hold Peace for Ukraine Peace Summit Mid-June

The Swiss government announced that the high-level summit on peace for Ukraine will be held in Bern on June 15 and 16.

The government added that conditions are ripe to hold a summit to kick start the peace process, indicating that the first step will be to develop a common understanding among participant countries regarding the path forward, towards a comprehensive and just peace in Ukraine.

In January of this year, Swiss Confederation President Viola Amherd had announced her country’s approval of a request made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a high-level peace conference to be organized in Switzerland.

HH the Amir Receives More Well Wishers on Eid Al Fitr

HH the Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, received scores of well-wishers, including Their Excellencies Sheikhs and citizens, on the advent of Eid Al-Fitr, at Lusail Palace on Wednesday afternoon.

HH the Amir also received Their Excellencies Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited to Qatar.

The well-wishers expressed their sincere congratulations to HH The Amir, praying to Allah that the Eid brings goodness and prosperity to His Highness, the State of Qatar and its people, as well as to the Arab and Islamic world.

HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani the Personal Representative of HH The Amir along with a number of Their Excellencies Sheikhs and senior officials attended the reception.

President Abbas, Jordan’s King, Discuss Latest Palestinian Developments

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and King Abdullah II of Jordan discussed the latest developments in Palestine and the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip.

During their phone conversation today, President Abbas stressed the need to accelerate an immediate end to the war of genocide against Palestinian people and to allow the entry of humanitarian relief and medical aid, in addition to preventing displacement and stopping the dangerous Israeli escalation in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, underscoring the importance of the State of Palestine gaining full membership in the United Nations.

In turn, the Jordanian King reiterated Jordan’s ongoing support for the Palestinian people until they achieve their legitimate rights and establish their independent state on the 1967-borders, with Jerusalem as its capital.
