Youth Minister inspected work for final phase of rehabilitating & turfing Al-Zarafi Stadium


Youth and Sports Minister in the caretaker government, Muhammad Hussein Al-Muaydi, inspected the work of the final phase of rehabilitating and turfing Al-Zarafi Stadium in the capital secretariat.

The executing company has begun work on the asphalt layer of the stadium floor, in preparation for installing the turfing process, and the work is almost complete, and it is expected that the stadium will be ready and prepared to hold sports competitions and host competitions between clubs and sports teams at the beginning of next April.

During the visit, Minister Al-Muaydi stressed the necessity of adhering to quality standards and technical specifications during the implementation process, pointing to the sporting and historical value represented by Al-Zarafi Stadium, which hosted the first generation of pioneers of the sports movement.

At the conclusion of the visit, Minister Al-Muaydi directed the project team and the implementing agency to intensify efforts to complete the remaining work as quickly as possib
le.

AND chief casts light on National Anti-Drug Strategy’s ‘groundbreaking’ goals

Amman: Anti-Narcotics Department’s (AND) Director Hassan Qudah, said that the National Anti-Drug Strategy came in implementation of the Royal directives during His Majesty’s visit to AND’s headquarters on May 22, who directed to find a comprehensive preventive strategy for the drug phenomenon.

In a statement Thursday, Qudah said a higher committee was formed, comprising technical committees of Public Security Directorate (PSD) personnel to outline this recently-announced strategy, in partnership with official and private bodies and civil society institutions.

Qudah added that this strategy aims to orchestrate efforts with a “comprehensive and participatory” approach to integrate roles with all relevant institutions.

This drive seeks to achieve several goals, primarily building an anti-drug culture, raising level of community awareness of addiction treatment services and integrating the recovered addicts, he pointed out.

The strategy, he noted, is based on two main goals, mainly raising level of drug-relat
ed awareness, aimed to strengthen role of the family and educational institutions and investing in media in this field.

Meanwhile, he said the second deals with rehabilitating addicts and reintegrating them into society, stressing importance of the “key” role of the media in this regard.

Additionally, he pointed out that the strategy features competitions, initiatives, awareness programs and films, adding that it also aims to activate media role, train preachers, and raise family awareness.

UAE President congratulates Vladimir Putin on re-election as President of Russia

ABU DHABI: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke by telephone today to His Excellency Vladimir Putin, congratulating him on his re-election as President of the Russian Federation in the recent elections.

His Highness expressed his best wishes for President Putin’s success in leading his country and achieving the aspirations of its people for further progress and prosperity. He looked forward to continuing to work together to enhance the bilateral relations and strategic partnership between the UAE and Russia, serving their mutual interests and the welfare of their peoples.

The Russian President expressed his appreciation to His Highness for his congratulations and the sincere sentiments expressed towards Russia and its people.Both sides affirmed during the call their mutual commitment to enhancing relations between their countries and advancing their strategic partnership and collaboration to achieve their common interests.

Khasawneh, UAE Investment Minister talk cooperation memos


Amman: Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh and the UAE Minister of Investment, Mohammed Alsuwaidi, Wednesday, discussed ties and cooperation in investment and development.

Khasawneh and Alsuwaidi discussed, in Amman, developments regarding the implementation of the $5.5 billion package of investment projects included in the memorandums of understanding signed between the two countries, which were signed during the visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II to Abu Dhabi in November 2023.

They agreed on the “importance” of implementing the projects included in the memorandums of understanding and continued search for new areas for cooperation.

In November, Jordan and the UAE signed three memorandums of understanding in Abu Dhabi.

The first MoU was signed between the Jordan Investment Fund (JIF) and Abu Dhabi Development Holding Company on projects to operate the Aqaba multipurpose port, develop a waste transfer station to energy, a joint venture agreement with the Aqaba Development Company to establish a Port Commun
ity System (PCS) to supervise port communications, a cross-border railway project agreement, and the development of a wastewater treatment plant in Wadi Zarqa.

The second MoU was signed between the ministries of investment in the two countries for cooperation in the field of investment. The third is between the government and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development to finance $400 million in development projects in Jordan.

The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister of State for Public Sector Modernisation, Nasser Shraideh, and Minister of Investment Kholoud Saqqaf attended the meeting.

Qaisi: New 2024 Tourism Law seeks to attract investments


Amman: Minister of Tourism, Makram Qaisi, said the Tourism Law of 2024 new amendments aim to enhance competitiveness of the tourist sector and improve Jordan’s business environment to increase flow of investments.

Qaisi’s remarks came during Lower House Tourism and Public Antiquities Committee’s meeting held Wednesday to deliberate the new bill.

Addressing MPs, Qaisi added that global developments require introduction of new terms into the law, which would help maintain the sector’s sustainability and continuity in Jordan.

Qaisi also pointed out that the key amendments focus on streamlining procedures for licensing requirements by exclusively requesting Jordanian Ministry of Tourism’s approval to practice tourism professions and activities.

Additionally, Qaisi noted the new bill seeks to strengthen the Kingdom’s tourism security system, provide technical capabilities, training and funding for “pioneering” projects in the sector, and support local communities, women and youth.

Meanwhile, the committee’s h
ead, MP Magdi Yaqoub, noted “dire” need of legislation that would streamline procedures for investors in the Kingdom’s tourism sector, and support its workers to help its growth.

Yaqoub stressed necessity of providing technical and training support for the tourism sector’s workers and ensuring services at Jordan’s archaeological sites, especially religious attractions, to better promote them to reflect their historical importance.
