ADWAN MEETS US AMBASSADOR


Head of the House Committee of Administration and Justice, MP George Adwan, met on Wednesday with US Ambassador to Lebanon, Lisa Johnson.

The pair stressed the necessity of implementing the international resolutions, namely Resolution 1701.

European Union condemns attack on Iranian diplomatic installation in Damascus

BRUSSELS: The European Union condemned the attack on an Iranian diplomatic installation in Damascus on 1 April, as well as the reported casualties.

According to a statement by Peter Stano, Lead Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel must be respected in all cases and in all circumstances in accordance with international law.

Berlin fully supports NATO, Germany’s Pres. Affirms


Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier affirmed on Wednesday Berlin’s full support of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and their continued investment in NATO’s defensive assets.

In a message to NATO’s General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg, Steinmeier said that Berlin will keep spending two percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) on NATON defense.

Steinmeier also confirmed in the message distributed to the press in the German Palace of Republic, there are many reasons behind this decision, mainly its strength in this time of need.

The German President pointed that the decision has nothing to do with the European Union Parliament elections set in June, or the awaited US presidential elections later this year.

Al-Moussawi calls on Al-Mandalawi to hold an emergency session on the ‘Haritha’ incident and host Al-Eidani and Basra officials


MP of the Sadiqoun parliamentary bloc, Zainab Jumaa Al-Musawi, said, ‘Al-Haritha incident is not the first of its kind, but there have been many cases of running over primary school students, and this is the result of mismanagement of Basra Governorate.’

She added in a press statement issued by her media office: The Haritha incident reveals to us the extent of financial corruption in Basra Governorate and the inability of the executive authorities, starting from Governor Asaad Al-Eidani to the municipal officials in the governorate, to show significant failure in managing the most important governorates of Iraq in terms of oil, in addition to being Iraq’s economic gateway.

Al-Mousawi called on the acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, to allocate an emergency session very soon, specifically before Eid Al-Fitr, to host Al-Eidani, governorate officials, and the mayor of Al-Haritha to find out the reasons for not building pedestrian crossing bridges on the highway in Al-Haritha.
