BASSIL PARTAKES IN BKIRKI’S EASTER MASS, HOLDS CLOSED MEETING WITH AL-RAHI


Free Patriotic Movement Chief, MP Gebran Bassil, participated in the Easter Mass held in Bkirki this morning at the head of an FPM delegation.

Following the Mass service, Bassil received well-wishers alongside the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, with whom he also held a closed meeting.

Caretaker Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Abbas Al-Halabi, extended his Easter greetings to all members of the educational family that follow the Western calendar.

He wished, in a statement this morning, all professors, principals, teachers, students, and families, a glorious Easter ‘in which the light of love, solidarity, and bondness overflows abundantly, despite our bleeding wound in the south.’

He hoped that ‘Lebanon’s resurrection will be near and that our beloved country will recover from its pain and suffering, and resume its revival at the hands of its brilliant human capabilities, because we are committed to our national and educational mission, and believe in our ability to continue our lives no matter the sacrifices.’

148th IPU Assembly concludes with pledge for peace


GENEVA: Hundreds of parliamentarians from over 140 countries, gathered at the 148th IPU Assembly from 23-27 March 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland, have reconfirmed their commitment to parliamentary diplomacy to support peace efforts, and to reinvigorate multilateralism through parliamentary action.

Dr. Sedra. Rashid Al Mansouri, member of the Parliamentary Division Group of the Federal National Council (FNC) in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs, which took place during the 148th Assembly of the IPU the 213th session of the IPU Governing Council held in Geneva, Switzerland.

In their final declaration, Parliamentary diplomacy: Building bridges for peace and understanding, the lawmakers recognise the importance of ‘inter-parliamentary dialogue and cooperation, and the IPU’s unique role as the parliamentary counterpart to the United Nations’.

The declaration emphasises that parliamentarians have an active role to play in accompanyin
g and complementing traditional diplomacy, ‘ensuring that efforts to negotiate peace processes, treaties and other international agreements are rooted in the needs of the people’.

At the Assembly, the IPU leadership issued an urgent political statement on behalf of the global parliamentary community calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, to complement the United Nations Security Council resolution demanding a ceasefire, adopted on 25 March 2024.

The IPU Assembly was one of the most well-attended on record with over 700 MPs in Geneva, including over 50 Speakers of Parliament. Around 36% of the MPs were women and some 27% were young MPs under 45.

Specialized courses in the General Administration of Security Operations.


Tripoli: Three specialized courses were concluded at the Specialized Training Institute of the General Administration of Security Operations under the supervision of international experts.

The Ministry of Interior stated on Friday that the first course was in the field of aerial photography, the second was about reading maps and determining coordinates and locations, and the third was about tactics for arresting criminals

Executive meeting about launching the Wafid platform.


Tripoli: The Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation, Ali Al-Abed Al-Rida, the Minister of State for the Affairs of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, Adel Jumaa, the head of the Passports Authority, and representatives of the Intelligence Service and the Telecommunications Holding Company discussed yesterday, Thursday, the mechanisms for issuing electronic work visas for foreign workers.

The Ministry of Labor and Rehabilitation stated that the meeting discussed mechanisms for linking the relevant authorities with regard to the work visa and coordinating between them through the ‘Wafid’ digital platform, which is expected to be launched on the first of next May after completing all procedural and legal steps. The Ministry has also reviewed the executive steps in a comprehensive technical presentation.
